Army begins polls duty across Bangladesh for upcoming Election


They will be deployed till January 2

Army personnel have already begun their 11th general election duties as part of the country’s mobile/striking force.

The troops went to their designated spots on Monday morning, and will continue their duties till January 2—along with law enforcement—to ensure a free a fair election, slated for December 30. 

Our Khulna correspondent Hedait Hossain Molla reports that nine army platoons were deployed to the district and metropolitan areas on Monday morning. 

“They will perform their duties until January 2,” said Khulna Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Sonali Sen. 

On Sunday, the Election Commission’s Joint Secretary Farhad Ahmed Khan said about 400-450 army platoons will be deployed in 389 upazilas, in 270 constituencies, across the country, on Monday morning.
